What if peace has a sound?
We often remember life's most sacred moments by what we hear. The first cry of a newborn, the whispered " I Love you". The laughter of family gathered, a favorite song sung softly. Even in silence, sound has a way of reaching places that words cannot. Scripture begins with sound. "In the beginning...God said". Before there was light, before mountains rose from the earth or oceans filled their boundaries, God's voice spoke creation into existence. Throughout the Bible, sound marks moments of worship, celebration, warning, comfort, and hope. Trumpets announced God's presence, songs lift weary hearts, and gentle whispers remind us that God is near. Sound has always been part of God's story. Our world, however, has it's own kind of sound. The constant buzz of notifications, traffic rushing by, hospital monitors. Televisions that never seem to turn off, conversations hurried due to someone's busy schedule or responsibilities. So much noise!! It isn't surprising that many long for stillness. While research continues to explore how music and calming sounds can influence stress, anxiety, and relaxation , one truth feels familiar to almost everyone: gentle, intentional sound often help us slow down, breathe deeply, and become more present in the moment. Perhaps that is why lullabies comfort a child, a favorite song can emote tears, why waves breaking on the shore quiet a racing mind. I say ALL of that to say this, why in the world sound bowls or handpan? It is my hope not to 'fix" people or replace your care providers but to create a peaceful environment where hearts can rest, families can breathe, and sacred moments are met with compassion, dignity, and the love of Christ. Peace doesn't always arrive in words. Sometimes, peace has a sound.
